MBTA COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE

Beginning this Monday, Aug. 11, the MBTA and Keolis will adjust schedules for Foxboro Station commuter rail trains between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

  • Midday outbound trains 1725 (9:37 a.m. arrival), 1731 (11:29 a.m. arrival), and 1739 (1:19 p.m. arrival) to Foxboro will be removed from the schedule. Passengers can utilize Franklin Line service for all stops to Walpole and connect with a shuttle bus at Walpole for service to Foxboro.
  • Midday inbound trains 1732 (10:36 a.m. departure), 1740 (12:31 p.m. departure), 1748 (2:09 p.m. departure) from Foxboro will be removed from the schedule. Passengers can utilize Franklin Line service for all stops to South Station and connect with a shuttle bus at Foxboro to connect with train service at Walpole.

Foxboro Station trains outside of this window will be unaffected and continue to operate as usual. Special event trains for concerts and Patriots games at Gillette Stadium will also continue to operate as scheduled. This schedule adjustment is in place to allow Amtrak to continue to make emergency repairs on a downed signal wire and to begin construction of a permanent, accessible platform at Foxboro Station. Keolis and the MBTA will continue to adjust service as Amtrak makes progress on repairs, with the goal of returning to normal Commuter Rail service for passengers as soon as possible. Foxboro Station Improvements

  • Construction Start: August 2025
  • Projected completion: Ready for use for World Cup events in June 2026
  • Budget: $35 million
  • Status: Design and procurement

We are improving Foxboro stationโ€™s capacity and accessibility in advance of the 2026 World Cup games taking place at Gillette Stadium. These improvements are being made in anticipation of high ridership for World Cup events and timed to minimize impacts on commuters. This long-term infrastructure investment may allow for additional special event trains for future events at Gillette.

Project Features

Accessibility and capacity improvements will benefit regular commuters as well as World Cup attendees. This work will include the following:

  • Construction of a permanent accessible high-level platform on the stadium side of the station, available to daily riders
  • Construction of a temporary high-level platform across from the existing permanent station, on what is known as the neighborhood side.
  • Construction of a temporary mini high-level platform necessary to support construction logistics on the stadium side of the station.

Rider Benefits

  • Increased capacity to accommodate anticipated high ridership levels during the 2026 World Cup and future events at Gillette Stadium
  • Ability to board or unload more trains at once
  • Accessibility improvements with high level platforms allowing for easier boarding
  • The temporary platform on the neighborhood side may be re-deployed for future large events

What to Expect During This Work

To facilitate construction operations, the service road just south of Ashcroft Ln will be the primary entry point for equipment, crews, and material expected to flow into the site.
